Nasal alar base reduction surgery (also known as alarplasty) primarily addresses issues such as excessively wide, everted, thick, or drooping nasal alar. The surgery removes excess tissue or adjusts the shape of the nasal alar, causing it to narrow upwards and inwards, thus creating a smoother nasal curve. Its core effect is to transform a "wide and flat" nose into a "refined and three-dimensional" nose, resulting in more harmonious overall facial proportions. This surgery is particularly suitable for cases common in Asians, such as bulbous noses or wide nasal alar bases.

Main visual and functional effects

Narrowing the width of the nostrils: The base of the nostrils is narrowed, and the nostrils also become smaller (ideally, the width of the nostrils should be roughly equal to the distance between the inner corners of the eyes), making the nose appear narrower from the front.

Lifting the nostrils: Improves droopy or everted nostrils, prevents excessive outward turning of the nostrils when smiling, and makes the nose more upright and natural.

Overall nasal reshaping: Usually performed in conjunction with tip rhinoplasty or rhinoplasty, it can solve the problem of "overly large nasal bridge", making the nose look higher and sharper, thereby making the facial contour more harmonious (shortening the midface and making the face look smaller).

Improves the sides and base of the nose: the alar groove is more defined, the curve of the nasal base is more beautiful, and the "pig nose" appearance is avoided.

Functional improvement: In rare cases, it can improve mild breathing difficulties caused by excessively wide nasal wings (but it is mainly used for cosmetic purposes).

Permanent: The results of the surgery are permanent (unlike temporary fillers), and no visible scars will be left after the procedure.
