Ultherapy (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound, HIFU) is a popular non-invasive cosmetic anti-aging treatment, also known as "non-invasive facelift" or "ultrasound lifting." It doesn't use a real "knife," but rather utilizes high-intensity focused ultrasound technology to precisely deliver energy from outside the skin to the deep layers, stimulating collagen regeneration and tissue tightening to achieve lifting, firming, and wrinkle reduction. Representative devices include Ultherapy (the American version of Ultherapy, FDA-approved for lifting indications), Doublo (Korea), and the emerging MFUpro (Israel).

principle

Ultrasound scalpel uses focused ultrasound waves to precisely concentrate energy at different depths of the skin (e.g., 1.5mm superficial dermis, 3.0mm deep dermis, 4.5mm SMAS fascia layer), instantly heating it to 60-70℃ and forming micro-thermal coagulation points (TCPs). This can cause:

• Collagen contracts immediately (instant firming).
• It stimulates tissue repair mechanisms and promotes the regeneration of new collagen and elastic fibers (gradual improvement).
• Contraction of the SMAS fascia layer (superficial facial fascia system) is equivalent to the effect of a surgical facelift, but without the trauma.

Unlike other optoelectronic procedures (such as Thermage radiofrequency), Ultherapy is the only medical aesthetic technique that can utilize the SMAS fascia layer without creating any surgical wounds.

Treatment process

• Duration: Approximately 60-90 minutes for the entire face.
• Procedure: Clean the skin, apply numbing cream, and the doctor uses a probe to draw lines on the face (real-time ultrasound imaging monitors the depth).
• Sensation: There may be a burning sensation or a slight tingling sensation (pain relief can be given in advance).
• Recovery: No incisions, you can leave immediately after the procedure, with no recovery period or only slight redness and swelling.

Effect

• Immediate sensation: a slight tightening feeling.
• Gradual progress: noticeable collagen regeneration in 2-3 months, peaking in 6 months (lifted facial contours, reduced nasolabial folds, firmer and smoother skin).
